The most north-eastern of the Aeolian islands, it is also the most famous due to its volcanic activity; it is made up of a unique volcanic cone.
Stromboli is a ‘Black Giant’ dominating the intense blue sea, a very young 100,000 years old volcano, which is perhaps unique in its kind because of its three mouths in continuous activity and amongst the highest in Europe, measuring 2,400 metres in height. As it is still active, the inhabitants have co-existed for at least three thousand years with frequent eruptions.
