Pantelleria lies between Sicily, Italy and Tunisia. Although Italian it is proud of its Arab influence. It has a very intricate history where the main engineers of the islands gardens and architecture was influenced strongly by the Arabic culture. However mixed the culture is, it is in this time a very Sicilian culture in every way, the inhabitants still being very proud of their famous art of hospitality. Instead of typical beaches, people swim off the black rocks.
The island is entirely of volcanic origin, where hot mineral springs and fumaroles still testify a quiescent volcanic activity. The main centre is Pantelleria Town, along with the much smaller Scauri, Tracino & Kamma and Rekale.
